Norwegian based Aker has confirmed its intentions today, stating that the move includes signing a new 10 year lease on its Kirkhill avenue facility in Aberdeen.
“This is a long-term investment for us that reinforces our commitment to Aberdeen and our customers in this important market,” said David Clark Aker Solutions’ regional head for Europe and Africa.
Aker Invest In UK Manufacturing
The Kirkhill avenue facility has served as a joint subsea equipment manufacturing and subsea services facility for Aker Solutions since 1993. It’s redevelopment will include a multi-product services area and state-of-the-art electronics labs that will expand the company’s subsea services offering in the UK.
The redevelopment will also include new office accommodation with enhanced welfare facilities for employees at the site. It comes after the company last year moved its main office in Aberdeen to a new complex near the city’s airport.
The move aims to strengthen Aker’s capabilities in the UK, with the ability to offer customers cost-effective services through the life of their subsea assets.
“We are making a step change in our UK business to better meet customer needs at an increasingly challenging time for our industry,” continued Clark.
”We have since the late 1970s pioneered subsea controls technology in Aberdeen, delivering more than 1,000 control modules to customers in the UK. The redevelopment will enable us to service these assets swiftly and effectively at a world-class facility.”
Aker Solutions also announced today that they have won a new three year contract with Brazilian state run Petrobras.
