Amec Foster Wheeler Wins Ichthys Project Deal

Amec Foster Wheeler announced today it has been awarded a consultancy contract by INPEX for the Ichthys liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Australia.

Under the agreement awarded by Japan’s largest oil & gas company, Amec Foster Wheeler will provide a team of production and maintenance assessors to carry out competency assessments for the Ichthys operations and maintenance teams across all project assets.

“We are proud to be involved in the Ichthys LNG project and will utilise our significant O&M expertise to deliver this important role,” he added.

The work scope also includes the central processing facility, floating production storage and offtake vessel and the Bladin Point LNG onshore processing plant.

The contract is expected to run until April 2017 and the assessments are to be conducted at the construction yards in Korea, offshore Western Australia and at the onshore LNG facility in Darwin.

The project recently reached a key milestone with both its central processing facility and FPSO facility safely starting up their main power generators earlier last month, at the South Korean shipyards where they are being constructed.

Australia’s Largest Hydrocarbon Discovery

Ichthys represents Australia’s largest discovery of hydrocarbons over the last 40 years.

Located in the Timor Sea, offshore Western Australia, the development is currently in construction and is among the largest oil and gas projects worldwide.

As well as this, the Ichthys project includes three large projects: some of the largest offshore facilities in the industry, a state-of-the-art onshore processing facility and a pipeline uniting them for an operational life of at least 40 years.
