Hyundai Heavy Industries has gained in-principle approval from ABS for the design of its new wide-beam, heavy-duty drillship.
The DH12000 concept has been reviewed by ABS, along with the configuration of systems and equipment interfaces on board.
The new drillship will be fully compliant with all ABS industry standards and rules. It will be able to drill to over 12,000 metres at a water depth of up to 3,650 metres.
One of its key innovations is found in the hull, which is based on Hyundai’s dynamic positioning technology. This uses thruster interaction and lessened hull resistance to help improve the performance at maximum roll angles and slash wave resistance.
