Offshore drilling contractor, Ensco, has secured work for its offshore semisubmersible drilling rig, the ENSCO 8505.
The UK based firm confirmed the contract in its latest ‘Fleet Status Report’. According to the report, Japanese oil and gas exploration company, Marubeni Corporation, have hired the drilling rig for work in the US Gulf of Mexico.
The contract is expected to start in December 2015 and run through to January 2018, with varying day rates of between US$150,000 to US$210,000, dependent on the rig’s state of operations.
Currently the ENSCO 8505 is in a Texas shipyard, where it is undergoing modifications and upgrades needed to fulfil the contract. Ensco have said that the yard stay will last for around 70 days.
No indication has been made to the amount of offshore frilling jobs the contract will secure over the life of the contract.
