The trade association representing offshore catering companies operating on the UK continental shelf, has warned that around 500 offshore jobs could go.
The Caterers Offshore Trade Association (COTA), represents six companies, including Aramark, ESS and Sedexo.
COTA has said that it is consulting on 500 job losses, and a pay freeze, across all of its member companies.
The dispute arose in early September, when COTA’s members refused to honour the second year of a two year pay deal, worth 1.3% to offshore catering staff.
At the time, offshore workers trade union, Unite, said it wold look to ballot its members for strike action, adding that it had given COTA and its members the statutory seven day notice for the ballot to start.
On the latest development from COTA, Jake Molloy from the RMT union, said that he felt the 500 job figure was high and nothing more than a scare tactic, designed to intimidate workers.
