Job Description:

The remit of works will include the delivery of engineering and detailed design, procurement, project services and construction / commissioning related activities necessary for the successful delivery of each project.

  • Support and preparation for the mobilisation of new projects.
  • Preparation of the project execution plans, including definition of project objectives and strategies, work scope, risk and opportunities, overall work plan and schedule, financial plan, quality and safety requirements etc., consistent with the terms of the respective Contract and the Amec Foster Wheeler procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of Win Plans for strategic bids.
  • Keeping fully up-to-date with the latest NG Technical Specifications, Policies and Procedures whilst acting as the Single Point of Contact in the Substations Business for the dissemination of technical bulletins and changes.
  • Responsible, in conjunction with the Engineering and Consultancy department, for the assessment of competency against NG standards for members of the project teams, in particular, Site Managers (formerly TP144), Commissioning Engineers, Principal Designers (TP141) and both electrical and civil Design Engineers
  • The ability to manage contracts between Amec Foster Wheeler and its Client.
  • The ability to manage contracts between Amec Foster Wheeler and its subcontractors whereby Amec Foster Wheeler and Client interests are protected and costs are managed.
  • To establish and maintain good working relationships with the Client Representatives throughout the project.
  • To monitor and control the project performance against budget and schedule whilst maintaining the necessary quality and safety standards in line with the Amec Foster Wheeler requirements.
  • Preparation and submission of project progress and cost reports highlighting Earned Value against Forecast at completion.
  • The identification of any change in the scope of work ensuring that appropriate change requests are completed in line with specific contract requirements.
  • To promote quality and safety on all projects.
  • Engage internal support functions in line with programme requirements.

The sucessful candidate will have experience and be competent in the following:

  • Leading and managing project teams on substation projects through all phases of design, construction, commissioning & close out
  • Have experience in managing the requirements of design teams for substation projects inclusive of any commercial budgets
  • Have experience with the coordination and interface with construction teams and sub-contractors
  • Have experience in supporting the site delivery team with project costs, schedule & change without compromising SHEQ standards
  • Experienced in developing and maintaining good relationships with client and sub-contractors
  • A good knowledge and understanding of the current Health, Safety quality and Environmental requirements on substation projects.
  • Have the ability to review the Scope of Work should any change management be required.
  • Have the ability to interrogate project estimates identifying profit and loss situations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Be familiar with and conduct project start-up meetings
  • Maintain an overview of material requisition and procurement status for projects
  • Manage the preparation of project schedules ensuring compliance with the client's expectations.
  • Manage and implement any recovery plans associated with incurred delays on the critical path on any project
  • Manage expenditure against project budgets and alert the Senior PM of any potential commercial deviations.
  • Oversee the implementation of any commercial variations that are raised whilst ensuring they meet the project contract reply periods.
  • Attend client meetings as required
  • Undertake management safety tours providing feedback to both the site team and senior members of their finding
  • Have the ability to manage the execution of all project close-out activities

Qualifications (Essential):

  • Degree / HND / HNC, or equivalent industry experience, in Electrical Engineering
  • Familiar with EHV Substation construction and Plant Replacement / Refurbishment Projects
  • Minimum NG person and BESC. TP144 equivalent competence desirable
  • Fully conversant with NG Technical Standards, Policies and Procedures
  • Familiar with NEC 3 Form of Contract
  • SMSTS or equivalent
  • Project Management qualification (desirable)
