Job Description:

Amec Foster Wheeler is currently recruiting for a Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer to work out of our Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia office. This position will be on the Marjan onshore gas plant project and is scheduled to run for approximately twelve months.

Saudi Aramco has selected Amec Foster Wheeler to develop a FEED for a mega program in the Onshore Eastern Province surrounding Tanajib, Safaniyah and Ju'aymah in Saudi Arabia. The increased crude and gas production will demand the initial expansion of an onshore GOSP (gas oil separation plant) at Tanajib, a Greenfield 2.5bnscf (billion standard cubic feet) gas plant, together with NGL (natural gas liquid) expansion at Wasit. This will all be supported by a new cogeneration power plant expected to generate 750 Mw (megawatts) for both onshore and offshore compression, together with power for onshore utilities.

  • Discipline leadership in terms of best practice, unconventional yet safe, proper and fit for purpose engineering and thinking outside the conventional box to achieve cost effective approaches
  • Achieve targets and initiatives assigned to the Instrumentation function
  • Contribute to all safety design processes including HAZAN, HAZOP, SIL Classification, Safety Lifecycle
  • Organize, monitor, report on assigned work scope
  • Participate in the technical assessment and ratification of bids from prospective contractors and vendors
  • Interact with client, company management and other disciplines to develop the control, safety and monitoring systems and instrumentation philosophies per the above criteria
  • Develop FEED packages suitable for client review, Contractor bidding and selection
  • Review all relevant other discipline documentation and participate in the development of the P&IDs
  • Issue material requisitions to the Procurement Department for enquiry, order placement and for any subsequent revisions
  • Prepare the Master Requisition Index and update and issue it on a regular basis
  • Review Vendors' quotations, prepare technical quotation evaluation and recommend the final technically acceptable Vendor, in conjunction with Materials Management Department commercial quotation evaluation
  • Technically approve Order Variation Summaries
  • Hold coordination meetings and engineering review meetings with Vendors of major equipment as required carry out technical investigations, produce technical reports, engineering standards and procedures
  • Assist in the development and training of Client's personnel when requested
  • Review the project execution developed by the Cost and Planning Department

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 15 years' instrumentation experience with 10+ years gas plant experience
  • Held a senior level role / position for a minimum of 5 years
  • Smart Plant Instrumentation and or MS Access
  • Prior experience in developing FEED's and Engineering Flow Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Extensive high pressure gas and condensate processing experience
  • Good knowledge of upstream, preferably with an appreciation of the development of onshore oil & gas facilities
  • Knowledge of Saudi Aramco standards is an advantage
