Amec Foster Wheeler is currently recruiting for a Engineering Manager (Cables) with extensive experience in the Transmission and Distribution industry for cabling and civils works. This role will be recruited on a staff basis at the Leicester office.

Purpose of the Position:

  • Ensure HV/LV Cable Engineering services enable delivery of secured projects in-line with our contractual obligations. This covers all cable contracts across T&D business.
  • Provide leadership to the engineering delivery team on efficient design management and project control.
  • Lead EPC Engineering Management to the Transmission and Distribution client base.
  • Ensure deployment of change challenge initiatives in contract delivery to realise benefits.


  • Accept ownership of work to be done (i.e. being required to undertake specific actions within an agreed job boundary, the execution of a delegated task, activity, or process).

Including but not limited to the following:

  • Overall management of Engineering on designated EPC projects, ensuring consistency with business unit and framework strategy, consistency of process across projects and customer satisfaction with the services provided
  • Development of resources to ensure Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel are deployed on contracts.
  • Contribute to the project execution plan, include definition on engineering objectives and strategies, work scope, risk and opportunities, overall work plan and schedule. Consistent with the terms of the respective framework and AMEC project execution plan mandatory contents
  • Controlling cable team costs
  • Liaison with construction management to ensure design representation at critical stages throughout contract delivery
  • Maintaining close contact with respective Clients throughout the project to ensure satisfactory reaction to Client's needs and demands.
  • Development of Principle Delivery Engineers to ensure development of future Engineering Delivery Manager resources
  • Support regular project technical reviews

Role Specific Requirements:

  • Proven knowledge of design and analysis for XLPE and Oil Filled cable systems up to 400kV including calculation of cable ratings, jointing and designing all earthing and safety features associated with the cable
  • Proven ability of cable electrical and mechanical design for the installation of new and replacement electrical cable cable systems.
  • Proven ability to layout Cable sealing end compounds taking account of construction, operation and maintenance requirements.
  • Sound understanding of cable construction, installation and removal techniques, and the associated advantages and limitations. This includes cable system temporary works requirements.
  • Proven knowledge for specifying cable systems and supporting Factory Acceptance of the delivered solutions.
  • Prepare standard technical specifications based on IEC and British Standards
  • Participate in meetings as required
  • Ensure quality assurance system compliance and conduct periodic reviews


  • Formal engineering qualification from further education up to at least Beng (Hons) level
  • T&D experience
  • Management of Engineering Team
  • Understanding of commercial and contractual processes


  • Membership to relevant engineering Institute
