Latest drilling rig delivered to Songa Offshore, ready to start work on an eight year contract in the Norwegian sector with Statoil.
The six generation Songa Enabler, has been fully winterised and specifically designed to operate year round in harsh environments.
Latest Drilling Rig Delivered
Delivered by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering’s (DSME) shipyard in South Korea; the semisubmersible drilling rig is due to depart Korea within a few days according to Songa.
The rig will then head to Norway, under tow-assist, where it will undergo a full pre assignment assessment by Statoil. Once complete the Songa Enabler will begin its eight year drilling contract, during the third quarter of 2016, starting in the Statoil operated Snøhvit field.
Songa Offshore have stated that the Enabler, its fourth CAT D rig to be delivered, marks the end of a class of drilling rigs specifically designed for its client Statoil; which has included the Songa Equinox, Songa Endurance and the Songa Encourage all delivered during 2015.
A spokesman from Songa said the “Songa Enabler is a sixth generation, high specification, harsh environment, fully winterized, midwater rig designed for efficient year around drilling, completion, testing and intervention operations in water depths up to 500 meters.”
“The rig is certified DP3 and is equipped with a “state-of-the-art” drill-floor and an efficient layout with improved safety and working environment features.”
