The Maersk Gallant is to drill offshore North Sea exploration wells for French based oil and gas major Total.
The news was announced Thursday 14th January, after the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority gave Total the nod to start drilling operations with the jackup driller.

Total have commissioned the Norwegian exploration well 1/5-5, under licence 618, around 25 miles (40km) North West of the ConocoPhillips operated Ekofisk field, on the Norwegian – UK border.
The 618 licence is a joint venture between Total (operator 60%, Petroro 20% and GDF Suez E&P 20%.
The Maersk Gallant is a jackup drilling rig, delivered in 1993 by Far East Levingston Shipbuilding in Singapore.
Designed to be an ultra harsh weather drilling rig designed to work in a water depth of 410 feet (125m).
