Production starts at West of Shetland Solan Field, as operators Premier Oil announce the first well flow from the UK’s latest offshore asset.
UK based Premier Oil have confirmed that Solan safely achieved first oil production on the 12 April 2016, adding that currently, the field’s first producing well (P1), will be left to flow naturally without artificial lift.
Production Starts At Solan Field
After an initial duration, Premier have said they will start the well’s electrical submersible pump (ESP), upping the rate of production.
Following this initial period and, taking advantage of the availability of the Superior Floatel, over which Premier has contractual options until the end of May, Premier intends to carry out a planned production shut down to complete the final commissioning of the water injection plant, the tie in of the second water injection well (W2) and preparation for the tie in of the second producer well (P2).
Offshore Drilling Continues
The Ocean Valiant rig is currently drilling the second producer well (P2y), where 1,500ft of high quality reservoir sands have been intersected and which is expected to be completed and tied-in by mid-year.
Production from the field is expected to build up to an anticipated production rate of 20-25 thousand barrels of oil per day in the second half of 2016 when both pairs of producer-injector wells will be on stream.
Ocean Valiant Rig
The Ocean Valiant is a deepwater semisubmersible offshore drilling rig, operated by Diamond Offshore Drilling. She was delivered in 1988 by Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan Shipyard in South Korea.
Ocean Valiant has the design capability to operate in a maximum water depth of 6,000 feet (1,829m), and drill to a maximum depth of 30,000 feet (9,144m).
The Floatel Superior is a semisubmersible accommodation vessel operated by Floatel International. Delivered in 2010 by Keppel FELS shipyard, Singapore.
Superior is DP3 dynamically positioned, and designed with a capacity to accommodate 440 personnel, all single bed cabins, or 512 using double bed occupancy system.
