A British Thermal Unit or BTU, is a measurement of energy. 1 BTU is equal to the amount of energy needed to change the temperature of 1 imperial pound of water by 1 degree Fahrenheit.
I BTU is equivalent to 1055 Joules.
With in the offshore gas production it is widely used to measure gas produce, with common conversions including:
- 1 cubic foot (1ft3) of natural gas≈ 1000BTU
- Approximately 1000 cubic feet (1000ft3) of natural gas ≈ 1MMBTU≈ 1 Giga Joule (1GJ)
- Price conversion of natural gas – 1000 m3 ≈ 35.8 MMBTU and 1 MMBTU ≈ 27.9 m3
