The Company Man is a representative from the contracting oil or production company. His job is to ensure the contracted drilling company is adhering to the all procedures, safety requirements, drilling program and ultimately to ensure the contracting company is getting value for money.
Other terms used can include DSV or Drilling Supervisor.
Offshore the Company Man’s direct contact is the contracted drilling company’s Senior Toolpusher. Onshore the Company Man reports directly to the onshore drilling engineers who have designed and planned the wells and drilling program along with higher authorities and financial officers.
