The Monkey Board is a platform from which the Derrickman will work during Drilling Operations.

The Monkey Board is typically half way up the Derrick and gives the Derrickman easy access to the top of the Pipe Stands, allowing him or her to de-rack the Stands from the Finger Board as and when they are needed by the Driller.

In offshore drilling, the Monkey Board often refers to the entire gantry that travels the perimeter of the Derrick.  This gantry is at the same height as a traditional Monkey Board but allows much greater access to equipment within the Derrick, e.g. sheaves and winch cables.

Monkey Boards in offshore Derricks can often be identified by a perimeter of Wind Wall around its mid section.
