The term On Stream, is a reference used in the offshore oil and gas industries to refer to a flowing well.

The term is most commonly used when new wells are being commissioned, with terms ”being brought on stream’ and ‘brought on stream’ widely used.

The terms On Stream and Brought On Stream are also used as umbrella phrases to refer to a new offshore platform or asset having completed its commissioning phase.

The terms derive from the belief that offshore oil and gas infrastructure is deemed to flow like a river, with Upstream being offshore wells or the source, Midstream being the transport infrastructure or subsea pipelines and Downstream referring to the refining operations and consumer use.
