Quadrant Energy and Carnarvon Petroleum announced successful well test results from the Roc-2 well offshore Australia, in the Bedout basin.

According to the companies, the results confirm the prospectivity of the Bedout basin and provide valuable new information about the area.

“These results show significant potential in this largely unexplored area situated in relatively shallow water,” the company’s CEO, Brett Darley, said.

The Roc-2 well flow tested at a maximum rate of 51.2 million cubic feet per day of gas and 2,943 barrels of condensate per day, the equivalent to approximately 11,500 barrels of oil equivalent (boe) per day.

The well, located within the WA-437-P exploration permit in the North West Shelf of Australia, is operated by Quadrant (80%) in partnership with Carnarvon Petroleum (20%).

According to Darley, the results provide Quadrant Energy with the opportunity to “evaluate a range of development options given the close proximity to major resource projects”.

“Today’s announcement adds to Quadrant Energy’s recent exploration success during the year at Davis-1, Outtrim-East-1 and Spartan-1, highlighting Quadrant Energy’s offshore exploration capability and strong acreage position,” he adds.

Roc-2 Test Results Prove Promising for Future Development

According to a statement by Carnarvon’s Managing Director, Adrian Cook, the flow test found insignificant levels of other substances in the gas and condensate found, and brought “a significant amount of valuable new information”.

“The flow test result very clearly and unequivocally demonstrates the capability of these hydrocarbons to flow from quality reservoir within the basin,” he explained.

“Our drilling results to date in the Bedout Sub-basin have been extraordinary. Carnarvon and its partner and operator, Quadrant Energy, have made substantial progress in this new oil and gas province since exploration began in earnest in 2014,” he stated further.

“These results provide Carnarvon and its partner with enormous blue sky potential and a platform within the Phoenix South and Roc area in which to test and develop this potential,” he concluded.
