Oil Supermajor Shell has confirmed that it’s in the process of reorganising its US, Gulf of Mexico, workforce with relocations ahead.
The reorganisation will see staff, currently working at the company’s New Orleans, relocated to Houston.
Shell To Relocate US Staff
Speaking to Offshore Post, a spokesman for Shell said: “Shell continuously evaluates workforce needs to ensure we have the right number of employees and contractors in place to deliver value from all aspects of our business.”
“We announced 7,500 global job cuts in the third quarter of 2015, with an additional 2,800 planned cuts announced in early December.”
“Our New Orleans office continues to be our operations center of expertise for Deep Water including engineering, operations support, and three offshore technology centers. Shell values our position and presence in the Greater New Orleans area – for our ongoing business, offshore training needs, and longstanding relationships in the community.”
“We routinely adjust our portfolio and staff to remain competitive. Individual discussions and business assessments are still underway. However, we will relocate some individuals to Houston in 2016, but we anticipate this will be less than 5% of Shell’s total New Orleans workforce of nearly 1,900 people.”
